What’s New In March?

Dev Diary, News - By - February 26, 2010 - 9:03 am -

Team HubEarlier this week, I had the pleasure of watching an intriguing documentary called Two Days in April that followed four potential pros through all the preparation, pride and pain they experience as they do their best to up their stock for the upcoming pro football draft. In a lot of ways, it draws an interesting parallel to the trials and tribulations of the hectic off-season here at Quick Hit, Inc.

As I mentioned in the last update, we’ve got big plans for the future of Quick Hit Football and one theme the film hit on again and again is that the way you spend your downtime can be the difference between being just another player and establishing yourself as “the” player everyone’s talking about.

To that end, we’re about to unleash our second “sprint” towards next season in the form of our latest update, and we’re pretty excited about this one’s ability to add some impact to the overall experience.

So what’s cooking?

Team Pages

The all-new My Team page

Well, for starters, we’ll be re-tooling the place you call home in the form of Team Pages. A pumped-up rendition of the basic Team HUB, your Team Page is part data center, part user profile, and will include things like expanded stats, player info, and more. To add to the awesome we’re also making them accessible to other Coaches, which means that if you’ve ever wanted to spend an afternoon scouting out potential opponents, do some research on how the top teams train up their players, or just geek out on all the crazy teams the Quick Hit Coaching Community has created, this feature is for you!

Anywhere you see a Coach’s name on quickhit.com, info like top players, per game stats, friend invites and game challenges are just a quick click away, so be sure to check them out!

Play-By-Play

New play-by-play display

Another big-ticket item in this update is the addition of a play-by-play text display of in-game events. If you’ve ever wondered why the words “Play-by-Play” showed up in the chat panel, wonder no longer.

Viewable in the chat window and in the scoreboard, this should really help y’all dial in on key plays and top performers. That means you’ll finally be able to figure out which one of your 5 eligible receivers just made that spectacular catch for the TD. A small touch, but we think it will add a lot.

Daily Rewards

Visit everyday to play the Coach’s Daily Bonus

How many times have you heard the old cliche “Practice Makes Perfect?” Well, here at QHHQ, we want to make sure that Coaches who hit the field each day get their due. To that end we’re introducing a cool new bonus system called Daily Rewards.

This system will ensure that on each daily log-in you’ll get the opportunity to win somewhere between 1 and 50 CP. Use it to train players, sign new free agents, or create a giant throne built out of CP from which you confidently gaze down at lesser coaches. It’s totally up to you, biggun’!

The FP Meter

A lot of you guys have also expressed confusion over FP bonuses, leveling up, and my obsession with plays featuring the Fullback position. I can’t help ya with the latter, but we are adding a nifty new meter in-game that does two cool things: 1.) Display your FP counting up after each play and 2.) Alert you to that super-sick moment when you up your Coach Level and earn more CP.

This should help y’all get a grasp on how you’re doing each play, as well as provide opportunities to gloat to other Coaches for helping you reach your latest milestone. Pretty cool right?

Gameplay Goodness

Last but not least, we’re making some fixes to the game that should solve a lot of issues we’ve heard about in the Quick Hit Forums.

Here are the highlights:

  • OL and DL Balancing Pass: Many of you have expressed frustration at the lack of pressure from high-level Des and DTs. We agree and decided to take a balancing pass on run and pass blocking match-up tunes to help make interactions between the o-line and d-line more meaningful to gameplay. This should result in more wins for DL with obvious Level advantages over their OL counterparts.
  • Multiple Defender Impact in Pass Coverage: Several coaches have also noted that passes in double and triple coverage should be tougher than single-coverage match-ups. We heard your cries and have added a system that gives would-be pass catchers a penalty to the catch math-up for each additional defender in the vicinity.
  • Coffin Corner Enhancements: For all you Coaches with top-notch punters the love is on the way! As part of our continued Skills tunes we’ve enhanced the functionality of the Coffin Corner skill, giving punters more ability to steer their kicks towards the sidelines. Viva la Special Teams!

Quick Tips

That about does it for my wrap-up. I’ll leave you guys with a few quick tips. Many of you have expressed frustration at “cheesy” coaches who love to line up in Goalline of FG Block on obvious rushing downs.

Personally, I love it.

Why? Because calling the right play here can result in an instant touchdown. If you haven’t figured them out, try the following plays to stick it to over-aggressive coaches:

WR Wizards: It’s all about Quick Outs, or plays that quickly establish intermediate routes.

  • WR Slants
  • WR Outs
  • Slot Drag

TE Talents: Just like WRs, find plays that quickly get TEs into the open-field:

  • TE Flats
  • TE Outs
  • FL Post

Ground Game Gurus: If they’re going to rush the line, use plays that draw folks into blocks and make them pay!

  • HB Draw
  • 35 Power
  • HB Lead (Flipped)

This should help you get started. Results may vary depending on the make-up of your team, so feel free to post your favorite strategies, as well.

Hope you guys enjoy the new update. There’s a lot or new stuff to take in, so be sure to leave us feedback! Now to finalize the next round of feature.
